5th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia opens in Mogilev

The 5th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia is opening in Mogilev on 10 October. It will run till 12 October, BelTA has learned.

The key event of the forum will be a plenary session to discuss priority areas in the development of regional cooperation as a key factor of integration and the Union State construction. The session will be attended by Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin.

Sections will focus on agrarian policy, unification and harmonization of legislation, digital economy, youth policy, international affairs and economic security.

The Inter-Parliamentary Commission for Interregional Cooperation of the Council of the Republic of Belarus and the Federation Council of Russia will hold a regular meeting to discuss ways to strengthen interparliamentary contacts and the role of the parliamentary dimension in the development of Belarus-Russia relations. Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich and Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matviyenko are set to meet with regional authorities.

The business part of the forum will include a meeting of the Business Cooperation Council, business meetings and negotiations featuring heads of companies and enterprises of the two countries.

Taking part in the forum will be over 20 governors of Russian regions. Applications were also submitted by 17 heads of representative government bodies of Russian regions.

More than 70 cooperation documents are to be signed at international, regional and local levels. Belarus and Russia plan to sign $500 million worth of contracts.

The major distinctive feature of this forum will be a craft fair where artisans from the two countries will present their works of arts and crafts. The program of the fair includes master classes, exhibitions of craftwork, folk games and activities, tastings of traditional dishes, competitions and a concert of amateur musicians Commonwealth of Cultures – Commonwealth of Peoples.

Belarusian regions will present their economic capacities, historical and cultural legacy and tourist attractions.

About 2,000 people are expected to attend the main and related events of the forum.

The forum is organized by the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia.
