“For me, there is no more beautiful arena in the world than Dinamo Stadium. You know I talk to a lot of athletes. I talked to them, and everybody was so happy that we came to Minsk for The Match Europe v USA. Everything worked out the way we planned. The Belarusian Athletics Federation and your people fully supported this athletics event,” said the head of the European Athletics Association.
When asked on the possibility for Belarus to host big sport events, Svein Arne Hansen said that it was highly possible. The country's bid to host the 2024 European Athletics Championships is among the strongest bids.
The inaugural The Match athletics event between the teams of Europe and the United States took place at Dinamo Stadium in Minsk on 9-10 September. Competing were more than 300 athletes. Fourteen Belarusians made part of Team Europe. High jumper Maksim Nedasekau and long jumper Nastassia Mironchyk-Ivanova won their events. Hammer thrower Hanna Malyshik and javelin thrower Tatsiana Khaladovich finished second.
