58 companies on Belarus' tentative list for privatization in 2017

Monday, 16 January 2017

There are 58 companies on the tentative list for privatization in 2017, BelTA learned from the press service of the State Property Committee.

“Belarus has drawn up a list of objects for privatization in 2017. It includes 58 joint stock companies. Most of them were featured in a similar list last year,” the committee said.

The list is based on proposals from relevant ministries and concerns. “There will be no new requirements for investors. The list of objects for sale will be coordinated, for the first time, with the business community of Belarus. This year, we have decided to ask for their opinion, because they form the business environment. We are therefore interested in their opinion. In 2017, we plan to conclude privatization deals with the objects put up for privatization at market value. Relevant changes have been introduced to the legislation,” the press service said.

In the past, it was the highest price of the asset, either book cost or market value, that was taken into account in privatization deals, the committee added. “Now, it is the market price only. It reflects the real value of a company to an investor and brings the privatization process closer to the international standards,” the State Property Committee said.
