Friday, 15 February 2019

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has sent an address to internationalist soldiers, veterans of the war in Afghanistan as the country marks the Remembrance Day of Internationalist Soldiers, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

“Thirty years ago the operation of the limited contingent of Soviet troops in Afghanistan was over. Our soldiers who were thousands of kilometers far from the Homeland displayed heroic tenacity, courage and perseverance, were the first people to take on international terrorism stopping its proliferation all over the world for many years,” the head of state remarked. “That war brought grief to many Belarusian families, claimed lives and crippled fates of thousands of our compatriots. We will never forget the feat of soldiers who fulfilled their military duty with honor and found everlasting glory.”

Alexander Lukashenko believes that today, in terms of global instability, it is especially important to cherish the value of peace and accord on the planet. In his opinion, internationalist soldiers are the reliable pillar of Belarusian statehood and patriotic forces of the country. “Your courage and loyalty to duty is a good example for modern youth,” the head of state emphasized.
